Overview

I began work on this game for Ludum Dare 46 in April 2020 and decided to further polish and release it. Analog Party Sim is a casual arcade game with some simplified resource management mechanics, and a variety of difficulty levels for increased challenge.

The biggest change I made from the game jam version, apart from remaking all of the graphics, was changing the input from WASD to the mouse, and confining player movement to a grid.

Tasks

  • Programming player movement with grid-based pathfinding.

  • Creating ScriptableObjects for all guests and drinks to allow for the easy addition of future content.

  • Creating randomized spawn points for guests in the level to create variety in each playthrough.

  • Balancing the party’s decay rate and the guests’ mood to give the player enough time to satisfy their needs without it being easy, which would result in the player having no urgency and losing interest.

  • Creating 7 unique sounding music tracks using the software BeepBox.

  • Arranging the guests’ spawn points and the drinks’ locations so that no matter where the guests spawn, the game is still beatable and all of the level is used.

  • Creating UI that clearly displays the status of the guests and the party, making sure there is enough on screen feedback so the player knows what they have just done and creating signposts to clearly display the options the player has.
